Before becoming a Makeup Artist, I worked in hospitality for many years. I would often take a lot of time getting ready for work, playing with makeup and glamming myself up for the day. I always say that I choose a makeup look first and an outfit second. Once I realised I could merge my passion for Makeup and people into one, I decided to study Fashion Makeup Artistry in Wellington, NZ. From there Asher Artistry was born. Straight away I was offered a job at MAC Cosmetics in Wellington where I worked for a year before transferring over to MAC in Melbourne, Australia. I was promoted rather quickly to Assistant Manager and loved helping to lead a team. I am now fortunate enough to work my dream job as a full time freelance Makeup Artist. I am based in Nelson but will travel anywhere as I am completely mobile. I am privileged to say that in the 6 years I have been in the industry I have worked for countless fashion labels and designers, musicians and public figures such as Julia Stone and Simone Anderson, hundreds of brides and bridal parties and even the local Mayor! I absolutely love what I do and it is shocking to me that after all this time I still hear so many people say that they feel intimidated by Makeup Artists, that they think they have to be “Pretty” or “Young” to get their makeup done. It breaks my heart, SO my mission is to make every single person that sits in my makeup chair laugh! To feel beautiful in their own skin, feel respected and at ease, and then walk out feeling like a million bucks! It is my job to bring out your best features, and have fun while doing it.
